Artist Statement & BIO
Katelyn Abrams is currently based in Provo, Utah. She has a BA in Studio Art from BYU with a minor in Family Science. She married her husband in 2022, and they have one son. Much of her practice draws on her experiences as a wife and mother paired with her knowledge of family science. She enjoys finding ordinary moments in life that are infused with magic and translating that into a piece of art.
My art reflects the unusual way I see the world, highlighted by the moments in life where reality and imagination meet. I like testing limits and understanding why they are there. As an interdisciplinary artist, my work spans both 2D and 3D genres. I enjoy making art that is unexpected; that challenges the way I use materials. There are always hints of an object’s past life, but my pieces focus on the transformation, challenging the viewers’ ideas of what something should do, or be. I look at objects for their possibility rather than their prescribed use. In conjunction with those themes, much of my art is focused on human relationships and highlights the unique connections that are often overlooked. My creative practice attempts to capture the magic of normal everyday moments that have something mysterious and extraordinary lurking in them.
